I wrote a blog exactly one year ago in pre COVID era that technology at the events changing fast and we have to adopt as quickly as we can but never thought that within 12 months some of the things, I have said already now necessity and not options any more.
Here is the link to my last year blog:

Now let’s come to current state of events. Event industry is in reinventing phase where even experts of event industry are scratching their heads to figure out and understand what is head of us when it comes to event planning, event management and what to do to survive.
Many big-name companies in AV industry already laid off hundreds of their staff either permanently or for a short period to sort out their financial stress while figuring out the future of their companies. Thousands of people who works in event industry are not sure about their future. Hope we figure out soon.
While all this happening across the board, virtual events are becoming the norm of the day. Companies who were already looking into this in Pre COVID era or those with technology inclination in their organizational DNA are getting ahead by either adopting different solutions available in the market or building their own as quickly as possible. Virtual Events are now here to stay but question is what happens when the live events are back to normal. For many answer is HYBRID approach, where live portion will carry a significant portion of the event with a good portion of attendees are not coming to live soon even if live events are back. Event companies has to find way to cater both on-site attendees and off-site attendees to make an event successful.
So, where we go from here – Companies involved in managing and hosting events need to move fast without being too hard nose about adapting HYBRID approach and what that means is to keep their options and choices open while selecting or building virtual solutions. Technology is here to stay and event companies need to have technology minded team on board to secure the future.
Cost of this transition will vary from size of event company and a good approach could be “If you cannot afford in-house then outsource”. Biggest asset event companies can capitalize on is their client/contacts list so rather these clients look for alternative vendors for virtual events, existing vendors need to step in quickly to fill that gap before a new virtual vendor takes over.
