When I started my career in early 90’s working as internee at an APPLE Distributor, we knew that 3.5″ floppy disk (1.44MB) was a real innovation from a 5.25″ Disk. Fast forward 20 years … 128GB (approx 128000MB) storage attached to our smartphone is a just a normal thing now. :)
Similar innovation is happening at a rapid pace when it comes to how user interact with new technology. In early days touch screen transparency sheet was available to paste on our computer monitors to make them touch screen and now high definition LEDs with touch screen features are widely available and being used in different industries across the board.
While all of us busy in figuring out different solutions for different industries, the question remain same as it was many years ago…. “what content we will be running on these touch screens?”. Content and context both changes as we change the size of screen and place where it will be used. I have recently tested few touchscreen products with different type of applications and it was just great to see the hardware manufactures really paying attention to details. Android platform is filling a bag gap of touch screen hardware by taking away market share from windows based touch screens in 15″ and above sizes.
With Apps are becoming a universal platform for companies to communicate and engaged their target audience, it is much easier to build an app which can run from smartphone device to large screens in matter of days. Companies do not need to worry about building different solutions for different platforms i.e. app for smartphones/tablets then same solution for large touch screen through Windows/Linux based platform.
We have recently launched our App IdeasMenu (www.ideasmenu.com) on Android platform which is developed to help restaurants, cafes, hotels, resorts and casinos to promote their food menus through interactive touch screen. With android platform now IdeasMenu app (www.ideasmenu.com) works from a 9″ tablet to 50″ touch screen.
This is just a begining for app developers to fill the gap with apps which can run from small to large touch screens with single platform. We are very excited to provide solution to fill this gap and hope other developers can catch on this as well.
